August George Boeger III, or “Augie”, was born on July 18, 1945 in Yuba City, California to the late Frieda and August George Boeger Jr., of Gridley California. He passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2012 of natural causes in Chico, California and is survived by his wife, Dianne; ex-wife Pamela; daughter Alysa; grandchildren and his younger brothers, Dan and Will.
Augie graduated from Gridley High School in 1962, attended Oregon State University from 1962-1966, and followed his time in college with six years in the California National Guard. Augie began farming rice in 1967, growing in Gridley and later Richvale. He developed conjunctive use habitat to enhance wildlife and improve water quality on his farm. In 1996 he began propagating and marketing sushi-quality Japanese rice varieties until his retirement in 2005, when he and Dianne relocated to Port Townsend, Washington. Augie enjoyed sailing, gardening, woodworking, and winemaking, and was a regular traveler, visiting Europe, Central America, and locations all over the United States and Canada. He will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew him for his irrepressible smile and his ability to find joy in all that life offered.
