  • Virginia Mae Smith, born in Childress, Texas on November 7, 1934, passed away very peacefully in Fernley, Nevada at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, on September 9, 2012 of lung cancer. Floyd Alexander Smith, born in Bonnerdale, Arkansas January 23, 1931, passed away very peacefully in Fortuna, California, at Fortuna Rehabilitation and Wellness Center on November 6, 2011 after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
They were both very special people who loved their family very much as they did them. We will miss them more than words can express. Virginia was a homemaker and the craftiest person you could ever have known. She was very dedicated to her family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Floyd served in the Marine Corps from 1952-1954. He retired from Pacific Lumber Company in 1993 after 39 years of employment.
They are survived by their loving family; son, Dennis; daughter-in-law, Mandy; grandchildren: Shelly Flynn, Adam Smith and wife Sarah, Jake Flynn and fiance Madison Ayala; great-grandchildren: Noah Smith, Hailey Smith and Presley Smith; as well as several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
They were preceded in death by their daughter, Linda Flynn.
The family would like to thank Doctor Grant Anderson, the Reno Life Care Center, the Gentiva Home Health, special thanks to Jackie (RN) and Jules (Physical Therapists) and Saint Mary’s Hospice Care, Cathy Johnson, RN, for all of their care to Virginia and support to family members. The family would also like to thank all the staff at The Wellness Center for the very special care they gave Floyd and also Doctors Olkin and Jones for their care. We are forever grateful to Doctor Charles Rigney and Doctor Kurt Osborn for all of their years of compassion and support for Floyd and his family throughout this challenging experience. There will be a gathering on September 28, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Gridley-Biggs Cemetery for the placing of their ashes in their niches. Immediately following, family and friends will meet at the home of Danny and Mary Upton (brother and sister-in-law to Virginia) at 2957 Second Street, Biggs, California. In lieu of flowers, please make any contribution to the American Cancer Society or to Alzheimer's Association.
