What's green and white and Brown all over? Esparto High School's football field last Friday night of course. Steve Brown, Biggs' senior TE/RB and defensive tackle ran rampant over the Esparto Spartans in a non-league affair that resulted in a 34-0 win for the Wolverines who are now 3-1. Biggs came out sporting their latest edition of new football gear. Biggs' uniforms rival anything you might see on College Game Day or Fox Sports, and out of the three versions they have worn this season this last set is unrivaled!.
All season thus far, senior Steve Brown has produced solid play on both sides of the ball for Biggs and Friday night in Esparto was no exception. Brown scored two of Biggs' touchdowns, one as a receiver and the other on the ground. He has been a sure thing for Biggs all year and also posted five solo tackles Friday night and a fumble recovery. Opposing offenses can be sure of two things, if Steve Brown touches the ball carrier - one, his forward progress is stopped, and two, it's gonna hurt. Brown is the strongest Wolverine and puts up impressive numbers in the weight room. What really makes this so interesting is that anyone in the section would be hard pressed to beat him in a foot race. He is a gifted athlete and does a great job of showing up when it counts.
Biggs wasted little time jumping on Esparto. Nathan Callaway took the second play from scrimmage right through the middle of the Spartan defense before being caught deep in the Red Zone. On the next pla,y Chance Felkins lost the hand off and Biggs was stifled again. Memories of their only loss this year flooded the minds of the Wolverine faithful. In the Red Zone, NO points!. Last week the Wolverines were stopped on their first drive on the East Nic 2. After an impressive opening against East Nic last week Biggs failed to put points on the board and it was very Dejavu. Biggs has failed to convert several times this season inside the opponents 20.
&am Biggs' offense may have started slow, but they methodically dismanteled the much larger Esparto team. By the half it was 18-0. At game's end, the 3-1 Wolverines were comfortably on top and coasting to their best start in well, forever, or at least since maxpreps.com has been recording stats. The Wolverines have been looking very championship-like most of the time and Biggs will have to continue to progress, as every league opponent that they face this season also posted W's last weekend.
Biggs again spread the wealth offensively. QB Blaine Roles, was 4 of 8 passing for 108 yds. and a touchdown strike to Brown. He also threw a two pt. conversion in to the sure hands of TE/FB Greyson Milburn. Roles has been very efficient this year. In the running department it was more of the same. Everybody contributes. Nate Callaway led all rushers with 106 yards on just eight carries along with a touchdown. Dalton Evenson added 64 yards on six tries. Chance Felkins had 33 yards via seven carries and a score. Greyson Milburn had 38 yards on eight totes and one of those carries for about 7-8 yards he ended up carrying at least five or six Spartans on his back.
