A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 10 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gridley for James "Jim" Edward Jenkins, 79, of Gridley. Jim passed away on Monday, September 17, 2012 at his residence following a long illness.
Jim was born June 24, 1933 in Chico, California to George and Margaret Jenkins.
Jim was a life long resident of Butte County, having worked for PG&E as an office manager for many years. He was a graduate of Chico High School Class of 1951. He enjoyed coaching and refereeing youth sports. He volunteered with the Gridley Police Department and Fire Department. He was coordinator of the Sacred Heart Soup Kitchen and a volunteer with the Sacred Heart Food Closet. He served in the US Army during the Korea conflict. He attended college at Butte College following his military service. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Gridley Moose Lodge. Jim was a former member of the Loins Club, Kiwanis club and American Legion.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Wilma Jenkins, of Gridley, California; one son, Robert C Jenkins, of Gridley, California; two daughters: Julie (Monte) Deal, of Gridley California and Carol Jenkins of, Oroville, California. Three brothers: Richard (Joanne) Jenkins, of El Dorado Hills, Walter (Irma) Jenkins of, Chico, California, Tom (Margaret) Jenkins, also of Chico, California; one sister, Patricia (John) Dumars, of Napa. Six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Father Avram Brown from Sacred Heart Catholic Church will officiate the service.
A visitation was held Wednesday, September 19, at the Gridley Block Funeral Chapel, followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m.
Family suggests contributions to the SPCA.
Arrangements are entrusted to Gridley Block Funeral Chapel.
