  • The new Yuba Community College Sutter Campus in Yuba City is open for its first semester. With technological upgrades and student services, the campus is ready for action.
With 18 classrooms and over 60 faculty members, YCC offers a variety of general education classes that easily transfer to a 4-year institution, says Executive Dean of the Sutter County Campus, Brian Jukes.
Jukes has been with the college since 1997 as an English Professor and filling various administrative positions. When a dean for the new campus was needed, Jukes was hired as an interim dean to get the campus off the ground.
“It just seemed like a good fit, both for me and the college,” he said.
The new $18 million dollar campus currently has 259 full time equivalent students enrolled. That means the 6 credit hours one student is taking is added to the 6 hours another student might be taking to equal 1 full time student, explained Jukes.
While every classroom has either two LCD screens or a digital projector, there are also a few other upgraded classrooms. Two 78 student lecture halls, two distance learning VCI classrooms, 2 computer labs and four classrooms with sinks for future science lab classes  is in addition to regular classrooms.
Students also enjoy a variety of student services included with their tuition such as the library and tutoring programs. In the mostly electronic library, students can access a computer lab, over 40 databases and an interlibrary loan program for those who need physical books. This library is also available from home through the student portal login. For the rest of this story, please pick up a 9/19/12 edition of The Gridley Herald.
