  • The Gridley Herald is pleased to welcome a new addition to its team of journalists. Corey Roberts will be assigned to cover the Herald's sports section.
Though Corey is new to journalism, he has always had a passion for both writing and sports. He recently graduated from Yuba College with one of the top grade point averages at the school.
A former football standout at the Middle Linebacker position, Corey served as the captain of the Yuba City High School, where he graduated in 2007. He also ran track and wrestled for Yuba City High.
After high school, Corey was awarded a full scholarship to Loyola University New Orleans but decided to put college on hold when his grandfather, Richard Ramos, had taken ill.
Although Corey has always had a passion for writing, he never really expected to make a career out of it.
Determined to follow in his family's footsteps, Corey graduated from the Yuba College Basic Police Academy in June of 2009 at the age of 20, the youngest cadet in his class. Due to the economy and his age, however, finding a job in law enforcement was very difficult, so Corey decided to go back to school while searching for law enforcement position. His first law enforcement interview, in fact, was with the Gridley-Biggs Police Department. He was hired as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for the Yolo County Sheriff's Department in June of 2011.
Corey says going back and finishing college was the best decision he had ever made in his life. "It gave me the opportunity to really find myself and figure out what I really wanted to do with my life," he said. It was there that Corey really discovered how much he loved to write.
Corey currently lives in Yuba City. He has two daughters, a 3-year old named Harmonie and a 10-month old named Addison.
