A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 27, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 400 Spruce Street, Gridley, California, for Mary Tupen, 74, of Gridley. Mary passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2012, at her residence following a long illness.
She was born August 23, 1937, in Yuba City, California to Juan and Antionette Leon.
Mary was a long time resident of Gridley, having taught school at McKinley Elementary for over 25 years. She was also an avid runner, quilter seamstress and a baker. She was a past worthy matron of Eastern Star Vernon Chapter of Gridley, longtime member of LDS church and served in many callings.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Juan and Antionette Leon.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, James Tupen, of Gridley; two sons, Doug (Kristin) Tupen, of Fortuna California, and JT Tupen, of Gridley; one daughter, Wendy (James) Maral, of Live Oak California and four grand children. She is also survived by one brother, John Leon, of Live Oak California and one sister, Connie Springs, of San Tee, South Carolina.
Bishop Bryan Pratt, of the Gridley First Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will officiate the service.
Interment will be at the Gridley Biggs Cemetery.
Family request donations can be made to the Fremont Rideout Hospice.
Arrangements are entrusted to Gridley Block Funeral Chapel.
