  • Wolverines gain respect at Live Oak Scrimmage
On Saturday, several local high schools converged on Live Oak High School's football facility to find out just where they stood within their own organizations, by coming out and gauging themselves against other area programs. The Scrimmage was very well played as hundreds of area young men and their families covered the grounds at LOHS. Schools represented at the event were host Live Oak, Biggs, Hamilton City, River Valley, Esparto, Pierce (Arbuckle), and the Willows Honkers. All seven teams looked to be contenders at their respective levels.
Biggs was by far the smallest school being represented, but Biggs believes strongly that you can only put 11 at a time on the field, so they weren't looking for sympathy and quite frankly it was obvious they didn't need any. The Wolverines hit well and had impressive showings against all four of their opponents. Defensively, Biggs looked at different personnel sets in all four games and found out a lot of positive things about themselves. Some positions may have been won based on performance in Saturdays scrimmage
Much of the same offensively, the Wolverines have several good running backs and all of them received some time carrying the football. O lineman, maybe the most important aspect of Biggs' game plan this season took turns at several different positions that are still not set in stone as far as starters go. As a matter of fact, the only position that seems to be concrete is Biggs' snapper. Jon Jackson, may be one of the smaller Wolverines physically but he demands that his coaches find a place for him to play, not with words but in his actions. He will be the Wolverines center this year.
Biggs has 0 week off and is set to travel to Los Molinos August 31 to face the Bulldogs for their season opener. This is contrary to the schedule, but Woodland Poly, who was scheduled to come to Del Kalbach Field on this same date had to forfeit do to complications within their own program.
