No human remains were found following a lead into a missing 15-year-old's disappearance in 1973.
The female is said to have grown up in Oroville but was at a group home in Gridley at the time of her disappearance. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Butte County Sheriff's Deputies and Butte County Public Works met at Lattin and Larkin Roads all day Monday and Tuesday morning to look for remains where a foundation is all that is left of a home reported to be the location of a missing female's remains. The case is still under investigation. A Realease from The Butte County Sheriffs offices states:
Butte County Sheriff’s Office detectives, assisted by Special Agents from the FBI and their Evidence Recovery Team, the anthropology department from Chico State University, and Butte County Public Works, conducted an excavation at a property located at Larkin Rd and Lattin Rd, southwest of Oroville today. The excavation was the result of tips the detectives had received regarding a person that was reported missing in 1973 and was possibly buried on the property. The missing person was a 15-year-old female resident of Gridley at the time of her disappearance.
Detectives have been working on this case for over a year, due to the new information that was provided, and an earlier excavation at the site last year yielded no findings. The excavation will continue tomorrow and has not resulted in the discovery of human remains. The name of the missing person is not being released at this time, pending additional investigation, but will be released at a later date. Based on the information provided by the confidential sources, the case is believed to involve “foul play”.
