  •     Recent Gridley High grad Trevor Anthony has been working hard through the years to make himself the best baseball player he could be. While the 18 year old is still a work in progress, his hard work has paid dividends, and has been noticed by area coaches, who have selected him for various all-star teams throughout the area.
Last weekend Trevor joined other Northern Section seniors as a participant in the Lions All-Star Classic, where he had the chance to take the field with the top seniors in the north state. Also last week Trevor was tabbed by Northern Section coaches for his fine season for the Bulldogs in which he hit a sensational .535 by naming him to the All-Northern Section squad picked by coaches and media members from the section. Also on tap is his recognition as a member of the Appeal-Democrat All-Area squad.
While all of the recognition is nice, the most important thing to Anthony is just to continue working on his game this summer before heading off to compete for playing time at Lassen junior college in Susanville. Trevor chose to attend Lassen because he liked the direction the program is heading under new coach Frank Avila. In Avila's first year at the helm of the Cougars squad, Lassen doubled its previous years win output and finished second in the Golden Valley Conference behind perennial state powerhouse Feather River College.
“The Lassen coach showed Trevor he wanted him,” said Anthony's dad Mike. “Trevor talked to different coaches, but he really felt wanted by Lassen. Other coaches gave the impression he wasn't really desired by them.” To read the rest of this story, please pick up a 6/15/12 edition of The Gridley Herald. Call us to subscribe today. 846-3661
