Colleen Claire West was born in Chico, California, on February 19, 1926 to Irvine and Thelma Graham, and passed away on May 17, 2012, at Redding Mercy Hospital. She was 86 years old.
Colleen moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon with her family when she was a young girl. She attended school there, and graduated from Klamath Falls High School. Shortly after graduation, her family moved to Gridley, California, and it was there she met her husband of 58 years, William T. West Sr., of Biggs, California; he preceded her in death in 2005. Also preceding her in death was one brother, Irvine Graham Jr.
She is survived by their three children, Linda Dittemore of Oroville, California, William T. West Jr. of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Kathleen Mason of Red Bluff, California, six grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Colleen was one of the first telephone operators in Biggs. She owned a children’s clothing store for a few years in Gridley, California before working in the Optometry field as an Optician. She was a long time member of the Biggs Baptist Church.
Colleen was an avid bowler, and belonged to several bowling leagues. She enjoyed swimming and exercising at Oroville Sports Club, playing bingo, visiting casinos, playing Yahtzee, and most especially spending time with her family.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 10 a.m. in the gazebo at the Gridley-Biggs Cemetery.
