Hazel Pitt Little
Hazel Pitt Little passed away May 20, 2012, at the age of 99. Funeral services were held Thursday May 24, 2012, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Liberty Ward Chapel, located at French Avenue, in Gridley.
She was the second of four children born to James Melvin and Mary Leota Eskelson Pitt. Born August 22, 1912, in Lake Fork, Utah. Her mother died of the flue epidemic of 1918. Her father remarried Estella Daley who had a small son. Together, they had 11 more children making a total of 16 children. Hazel being the oldest daughter became the second mother of the family as Stella was young and overwhelmed. The family moved to Gridley when Hazel was 16. She married Walter Golden Little in 1934 where they resided and farmed on Block Road, working together, and raising their family. Hazel was active in the community serving in the PTA and Pink Ladies Auxiliary, and serving numerous leadership positions in her church. Her husband passed away in 1989, and Hazel devoted the rest of time and life to her grandchildren, loving and nurturing them. She has remained in Gridley since.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter Karen, in 1942.
She is survived by her children: Loretta Campbell, of Sacramento, Gary and Brent Little, and Rita Sannar, of Gridley, Craig Little, of Modesto. She leaves a large family of numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
