  • Gridley High School seniors Katie Olson and Trevor Anthony have been selected to participate in the annual Lions All-Star softball and baseball games to be held June 2-3 at Hooker Oak Park in Chico.
The series started in 2003 with a North-South baseball game named the Bob Busch Classic in memory of a club past president and longtime leader in Chico youth baseball. A few years later the girls all-star softball game was initiated. Wet grounds forced cancellation of both games last June.
For each game, rosters have 18 players each. The North squad draws players from Red Bluff to the Oregon border while the South selects players from south of Red Bluff to the Yuba City-Marysville area. All players are graduating seniors and are chosen by all-star coaches and their assistants.
Olson was Gridley head coach Elmer Brocks best outfielder the past two years, and batted .298 during her senior season with a home run.  Katie will represent the south squad who will be directed by Chico High head coach Randi Salado.  The girls game will be Saturday night June 2, at 6 pm. The South squad leads the series 4-1. You can read the rest of the story is the 5-25-12 edition of The Gridley Herald.
