Gridley fighter Dakota Sisk (Navy shirt) was victorious in his MMA main event fight at the first Nor-Cal Combat last September. Sisk will be back in action on Saturday, April 14 when he takes on Sean Nelson in an elimination fight.
The Gridley area will have the opportunity to see its second Nor-Cal Combat Mixed Martial Arts event next Saturday night April 14 as the promotion group of Orsua and Byrne has put together a 12 bout card featuring several local fighters. Brannon Byrne, co-promotor and Gridley High School wrestling coach is the man behind the amateur event, and has worked hard with the Butte County Fairgrounds to bring back the MMA after a successful first appearance last fall.
The main event will feature Chico's Danny Negri vs. Sacramento's Armando Sabala fighting for the Nor-Cal Welterweight Championship. The two fighters don't like one another according to Byrne, and it should make for a great main event.
“Armando thinks he is the best, and should be champion, and Danny and Armando have a history. This The co-main event will feature Gridley's own Dakota Sisk vs. Sean Nelson. Fighters from UFC star Uriah Faber's Alpha Male Gym will be showcased on the card as well.
Several local fighters on the card and training with Byrne at his home base include Dakota and Deniko Sisk, Thomas Graham, Johnny Terry, and Joe Ruggirello, all of whom will be featured on the card. The action will take place inside of Jakes (formerly Goldies) at the Butte County Fairgrounds, in case of rain, and while the confines will be cozy to say the least, the atmosphere should be electric if it is anything compared to the first card put on by Byrne.
