  • Lifelong Gridley resident, Lewis Dixon Howell, died suddenly but peacefully, Friday, March 24, 2012, at his home in Gridley, where he resided for more than 50 years.
    Dixon was born in Yuba City, California on July 7, 1944 and attended school in Gridley, graduating 1962.  He attended Yuba College and served in the Unites States Army, was active in the community and was notable for his artistic abilities and craftsmanship as well as being an avid sportsman and fisherman.  Most notable was his passion for the game of golf.  He was a member of the P.G.A. and lifetime member of the Table Mountain Golf Course Men's Club.
    He was preceded in death by his mother Charlotte Golden Ungricht and will be missed by family including parents, Emmons and Betty Howell, of Gridley, brother Eugene Howell, of Oroville and Sister Dora Rhodes, of Missouri, children: Jeffrey Dixon Howell, of San Diego, Eric Dixon Howell, of Westport, Washington and Jennifer Leigh Howell-Montero, of Gridley; grandchildren: Jonathan Howell, Danika Montero and Emily and Ethan Howell.
    Services will be conducted at the Gridley Baptist Church, Friday, March 30, 2012, at 2 p.m., followed by a reception at the Table Mountain Golf Course Club House, in Oroville.
    Donations to the Gridley FOCUS Club in Lieu of Flowers would be appreciated and will be accepted at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
