The junior varsity Bulldogs made it look easy Friday night, as they beat the Marysville Indians on the road by a score of 41-18 to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Gridley scored on the opening possession of the game on an 81-yard drive, started by three straight Ed Ruiz runs to pickup their first first down. From the 30-yard line, Brad Props completed a slant pass to Kevin Mattos, who lateraled to Mike Fenn. The play caught Marysville off guard, and Fenn ran down the right sideline before finally being caught just before scoring. Ruiz punched it in on the next play to give Gridley a 6-0 lead.

The Bulldogs then forced a three-and-out, and started their second drive at the 32. Trevor Anthony went straight up the middle for a 37-yard gain to the Marysville 31. They came up a couple yards short on third down a couple plays later, but a facemask penalty moved the ball to the 11.

On third-and-6, Props threw a touchdown to Mattos, who was able to keep his feet in bounds on the right side of the endzone. A fake point after was blown dead due to a knee on the ground, but Gridley still led 12-0 with 3:23 left in the first quarter.

On the last play of the quarter, Mattos grabbed a punt after the bounce and on the run, was able to weave through a crowd and break some tackles to the Marysville 39. Two plays into the second quarter, however, Gridley fumbled and Marysville picked it up on the move and easily ran in for the score to cut the lead in half, 12-6.

The momentum shift didn't last long, as the Bulldogs seemed unfazed in their next drive. A penalty on the kick return moved the ball back to the 15, but that didn't slow Gridley down either.

Props ran for 18 on an option, and two Ruiz runs and a completion to Mattos had the Bulldogs near midfield. Props then hit Robert Montes for a 12-yard gain, and found him again on the next play wide open. He streaked down the sideline and dragged the one would-be tackler into the endzone with him.

Marysville fumbled on their first play on the ensuing drive, and two plays later Anthony scored on the ground. In a heartbeat, it was 27-6 Gridley with time still left in the half.

The Bulldogs didn't have a single punt in the first half, and scored on every drive except for the fumble and their final one, when they kneeled down to run out the clock.

In the third quarter, Gridley added a fumble return for a touchdown by Mattos, but Marysville answered by returning the ensuing kickoff for their second score, making it 34-12.

Another Ruiz touchdown put up the final points for Gridley early in the fourth, while the Indians spent much of the quarter slowly chipping away for their final score of the game, leading to the 41-18 final.
