Even without No. 2 ladder player Daniela Dumitras, the Live Oak tennis team was able to beat Colusa 9-0 on the road Tuesday to improve to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the Sacramento Valley League.

Jennifer DeWitt won at the No. 1 spot (7-6 (7-4), 6-2), while Alora Sutcliffe moved to No. 2 to win 6-2, 6-2. Also moving up the ladder were singles winners Fermina Chavez (6-3, 6-0), Melissa Anderson (6-0, 6-2), Kayla Morris (6-3, 6-2) and freshman Lucero Topete (6-1, 6-2).

DeWitt and Topete won the top doubles match 8-5, while Sutcliffe and Chavez won 8-5, and Anderson and Jaspreet Pamma won 8-4.

Volleyball

Gridley 3, Willows 1
The Lady Bulldogs bounced back from a loss to East Nicolaus with a win over the Honkers on Tuesday, led by Kacy Blenn's 15 kills. McKenna Cox had seven kills, and Lawna Sannar and Sheena Ruggirello had six.

Gridley had only two serving errors, while Ruggirello and Mimi Waller each had one ace and were perfect from the line. Teryn Mathews led the team with two blocks, while Cox and Carolann Warren had one each. Waller's 23 digs was a team best.

The Bulldogs are now 7-5.

Mercy 3, Biggs 2
The Lady Wolverines pushed Mercy to the limit, but fell short in the deciding fifth game. Emily Jackson had four kills to lead Biggs, while Holly Chandler had three and Kayla Hawes had one.
Neika Epple's five aces were a team best, while Hawes, Jackson and Emily Acevedo added three each, and Nancy Duran had one.

Hawes had nine blocks, Chandler had six and Jackson had one.

J.V. Volleyball

Mercy 2, Biggs 1
The J.V. Wolverines won the first game 25-18 before losing the final two. Billie Pruitt had three aces and one kill, Tessa Mayer had an ace and a kill, Kariann Nuchols had two aces and two kills, Angie Prada had an ace, Darci Roles had two aces, Maribel Garcia had an ace and a kill, and Kendall Mattos and Jerri Andrews contributed big plays as well.
