Manuel Thomas Faria, Jr., was born in Los Banos and raised in Gridley, CA., where he attended school. He joined the National Guard while attending Yuba College. Manuel enlisted in the Marine Corp in 1942.

Manuel Thomas Faria, Jr., was born in Los Banos and raised in Gridley, CA., where he attended school. He joined the National Guard while attending Yuba College. Manuel enlisted in the Marine Corp in 1942. He took part in the Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Tinian and Saipan, where he was a radio operator. Manuel married Gertrude Maciel in May of 1953 and settled in Tracy. A truckdriver who was the first to haul a load from Owens, Illinois in Tracy with Yandell Truckaway. He was a member of the I.P.F.E.S., U.P.E.C., VFW, and Holy Name Society. Manuel loved to hunt, fish and play games, and spending time with his family.

Manuel is survived by his wife Gertrude Marie Faria, daughter Marie Carol Costa and her husband Manuel Costa of Tracy, son Manuel Thomas Faria, III and his wife Bertha of Los Banos, 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Violet Faria, brother James Faria, sister-in-law Rose Faria.

Visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 28, 2009 @ 8:30 a.m. Whitehurst Funeral Chapel, Los Banos. Rosary and Mass will follow at 9:30 a.m. St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Los Banos. Burial will be at San Joaquin Valley Nationa Cemetery.
