Dan Soares was selected as this year's recipient of the Kaleidoscope Arts Award, presented by Michalene Hunter, co-president of Kaleidoscope, at the annual membership dinner.

Dan Soares was selected as this year's recipient of the Kaleidoscope Arts Award, presented by Michalene Hunter, co-president of Kaleidoscope, at the annual membership dinner.


Soares has had a remarkable career in the field of music, starting out as a GUHS graduate and a Chico State graduate, with an AB Special Secondary credential in Music Education. During his 38 years in public education, 24 of those years were spent teaching instrumental, vocal and classroom music.


Additional highlights in his many achievements include: International Music Festival in Berlin, Germany, as Chico High School assistant director, executive positions in the Northern California Band Directors Association, and the Northern California Honor Band Association. He organized and chaired numerous Northern California solo and ensemble festivals for Chico State College and has also been involved in the musical side of the Ponderosa Theatre Company, the Yuba Sutter Symphony and the Oratorio Society Concerts.


In addition, Soares has been on of 'the boysin the band', playing tuba and string bass in the King Cotton Jazz Band, and banjo with the Dixeland Jazz Group. Locally he directed the choir at the First Presbyterian Church, in Gridley.
