Gridley's volleyball team split their two games last week, starting with a win over the Trojans (25-18, 25-14, 25-19). McKenna Cox dominated the net with 18 kills and four blocks to lead the Bulldogs.

Gridley's volleyball team split their two games last week, starting with a win over the Trojans (25-18, 25-14, 25-19). McKenna Cox dominated the net with 18 kills and four blocks to lead the Bulldogs.

Kacy Blenn added eight kills, while Sheena Ruggirello had seven, Lawna Sannar had four, Mallory Walton had two, and Stephanie Hardin and Carolann Warren had one.

Teryn Mathews was 19-for-20 serving with three aces, Cox was 13-for-14 with three aces, and Ruggirello was 11-for-12 with three aces. Mimi Waller led the team with 12 digs and 12 serve receptions.
   
East Nicolaus 3, Gridley 0
The Lady Bulldogs followed the big win with a loss at East Nicolaus in three close games (20-25, 24-26, 21-25). Blenn led the team with eight kills, while Cox had seven, Ruggirello had four, Sannar had three and Warren had one.

Cox was a perfect 10-for-10 on serves with two aces. Waller had 14 digs and 20 serve receptions.

Gridley is now 6-5 overall and begins league play on October 1.

Champion Christian 3, Biggs 1
The Lady Wolverines came up short as they tried to win their second game in a row last week, coming off a win over Princeton. Biggs lost in four games (25-18, 16-25, 16-25, 11-25) to fall to 1-6.

Tennis

Gridley 5, River Valley 4
The Lady Bulldogs have won their last three matches, starting with a narrow win over River Valley. Tina Vasquez (6-0, 6-4) and Andrea Gutierrez (6-2, 6-3) were the only two Bulldogs to win their singles matches, but Gridley swept the doubles matches for the win.

Skylee Canada and Vasquez won 8-5, Hannah Richins and Celina Morales won 8-3, and Gutierrez and Waite won 8-1.

Gridley 9, Sutter 0
The girls had their best match of the year on Thursday, sweeping the Huskies on their own court.

Canada (6-0, 7-5), Vasquez (6-0, 6-0), Gutierrez (6-2, 4-6, 6-0), Waite (6-0, 6-1), Richins (6-0, 6-0) and Morales (6-0, 6-0) won in singles. Canada and Vasquez won 8-4 in doubles, Gutierrez and Waite won 9-7, and Richins and Morales won 8-1.

For their second straight Butte View League win, Gridley split their singles matches and won two of three doubles matches for the win.

Canada (6-4, 6-2), Vasquez (6-0, 7-5) and Gutierrez won in singles. Canada and Vasquez won 8-1 in doubles, and Gutierrez and Gretchen Granka won 8-6.
