This year as in years past, our local 4-H and FFA members will be bringing exceptional livestock to our fair. The Livestock Show begins on Wednesday, August 25th with the Goat Show. At 9am the Swine show will begin. Later that day Rabbit pens will be judged. Thursday, August 26th you will enjoy the Sheep Show at 9am followed in the afternoon by the Beef Show at 3pm. Poultry pens will be judged at 7pm. Friday will showcase the top showman of each livestock species with the Supreme Showmanship competition beginning at 6:30 pm.
The pinnacle for each 4-H and FFA member comes on Saturday featuring the Butte County Fair Junior Livestock Auction. Buyers’ registration begins at 8 am. The sale will start at 10am. This sale offers a great opportunity to purchase the highest quality meats for your freezers. Many families and businesses have grouped together for purchases. There are a variety of ways to be a supporter of the Junior Livestock Auction.
* You can donate a flat amount to the Cartel. They act in your behalf, either to purchase an animal or use your donation through out the sale. The Cartel sets a bottom on the sale price which helps the exhibitors and the sale maintain a positive outcome.
* Purchase as a buy back. This option allows you to be a supporter, and sell the animal back to the fair at market price. Your expense would be the purchase price subtracted by the posted market value on Sale day.
* Option 3 – Purchase an animal for your own use! There are several advantages to this. You get high quality meat, you get to have your purchase custom wrapped by the locker of your choice and many lockers offer various smoked and packaging options.
The excitement of Sale Day is very contagious. It is a fun time for the whole family and a great opportunity to support our area youth in agriculture. I look forward to seeing “OLIVE YOU AT THE FAIR”. If you have any questions, please give me a call. Tina at 530-681-5028.
