Former Gridley student Jena Silva earned a 3.8 grade point average in the fall quarter and made the Dean's Honor List at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

She earned this honor in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences.

"This past quarter you put in a good amount of work and we are pleased to recognize your academic excellence," wrote Ag Chair Wayne Howard. "Earning a spot on the Dean's List is more than just having your name on a list. It is also a recognition that you can accomplish what you set out to do and maintain a concentrated effort over time. Being on the Dean's List indicates to future employers, graduate schools and professional programs that you are capable of sustained, excellent work."

Silva recently returned from a three-month foreign exchange program she participated in through Cal Poly. She lived in Valladolid, Spain for three months where she attended and graduated from the University of Valladolid. At the university, she studied both Spanish and the culture of Spain. She also traveled through all of Spain, England, Paris and Portugal before returning.

She is completing her degree in Agriculture Business this spring and is in the process of applying to graduate schools.

Jena is a 2005 graduate of Gridley High School and the daughter of Manuel and Jan Silva of Gridley.
