Each January, many people tend to make their resolutions, which often consists of more exercise to lose weight. This of course stems from the tendency to over-eat during the holidays. How long the determination lasts, differs in everyone.

Spin and Sport Club can make weight loss happen, by offering regimented exercise six days a week.

Those who think they can exercise at home and see the same results, have not exercised at Spin and Sport Club.

Over the past three decades, obesity has increased in the United States at an alarming rate.
According to the Oxford Journal, Epidemiologic Review, currently 66 percent of adults are overweight or obese. 16 percent of children and adolescents are overweight and 34 percent are at risk of being overweight.

Mississippi has once again been named the fattest state for 2008, the third year in a row and Colorado repeats on the list as the leanest. California has dropped the most and comes in as the 41st fattest state.

Of primary concern, is the amount of overweight adolescents in the United States today. Teenagers are encouraged to exercise for 20-30 minutes, three to four times each week. This should include walking, jogging, swimming, bike riding, etc.

Bike riding is what Spin and Sport is all about, well almost. Besides the five-day-a-week Spin Classes, the business also offers kickboxing, body sculpting, weights and treadmills.
"The Spin Class is perfect for those who want to keep the weight off knees and ankles and can't jog. You don't put as much pressure on your body on a stationery bike," explained owner Shelly Sannar.

For those who like a less vigorous work-out, Shelly, Angela, Carla and Libby offer Spinning Classes that are more relaxed than the classes owner Josh Sannar, D.C. offers. Having been through Josh's X-treme Spin classes, I can tell you he could have been in the military. You of course, aren't forced to do more physically, but you are encouraged.

Of course having Josh adjust your bike so that it goes much faster while you are peddling is a sure-fire way of burning more calories. (Speaking from personal experience.)
His energy is obvious, as he cranks up the music and really gets the people moving and spinning that much faster.

The classes are a lot of fun and you definitely feel you have accomplished what you set out to do, burn calories.

Many clients have consistently lost 40 to 50 lbs., according to Shelly.
Open almost three years, the business started on Magnolia and Kentucky Streets, where Salon 7 is now located, but quickly outgrew that location and moved to 547 Kentucky Street, next to Jim's Barber Shop.

Opening Monday through Friday at 5:30 a.m., the Spin classes start at 6 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the last classes are offered at 6 and 7 p.m. They close at 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, the gym is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The most common way to determine obesity is the BMI (Body Mass Index) which takes into account a person's weight and height, then figures their body mass.

This is an accurate way to measure the amount of body fat in your body.

The television show, "Biggest Loser" trainer Bob Harper, states that Spinning is the best workout you can give your body, with the best sweat. He states on the Biggest Loser website, that you can burn 500 calories in just 30 minutes of Spinning.

"Biggest Loser" tips from trainers to get and stay in shape include: It's ok to give into cravings. Losing weight and keeping it off means balance, not going without treats for the rest of your life. Using a food journal to track what triggers overeating - stress, a celebration, or being with certain people. Identifying these trigger situations will help you put a stop to them and finally, use a measuring cup or your fist to measure portions correctly, from chicken to vegetables, just about every portion you'll eat is about the size of your fist.

Fast food restaurants, soda pop and pre-packaged foods are some of the reasons obesity has gone up dramatically in the past few years. They are quick and easy to eat when on the run.
Physical activity will determine the difference between being obese or not. Choose to walk or ride a bike, instead of using the automobile, whenever possible.  Anything that involves movement is going to be better than sitting still.
