On December 31, there will be "saturated" patrol in Gridley and Biggs, meaning extra officers will be on duty for the sole purpose of looking for impaired drivers.

On January 2, the Gridley-Biggs Police and the CHP will conduct a DUI checkpoint on Highway 99 in Gridley. On February 1, Super Bowl Sunday, officers will assist the Chico Police Department with a DUI checkpoint in Chico.

Every New Years Eve, the Gridley-Biggs Police Department receives several calls of multiple weapons being discharged, generally at midnight. It's a felony to discharge a weapon in a residential area, including the cities of Gridley and Biggs. Assistant Police Chief Brian Cook warned that anyone discharging a weapon is subject to immediate arrest and the confiscation of weapons.
"Generally alcohol is involved, making the situation more dangerous," he said.
