Although today's forecast is sunny with only ten percent chance of rain, the weekend is calling for showers through Monday.


In today's Looking Back column on page two, you will see that years ago Gridley received five-and-a-half inches of rain over the Christmas holidays, along with snow for 45 minutes, only sticking to windshields and car tops.


While we are happy that we don't have to contend with the weather in the east and being held up at airports, it is of course a drag to have to travel even a short distance, in the rain as you deliver gifts and take food to friends and family.


The weekend will hopefully be a time for staying home, enjoying those much appreciated gifts and staying warm by the fire.


As we get closer to early January, many of us remember last year at this time and the storm that hit us hard. We hope we don't see winds and rain like that for some time, but it won't hurt to be prepared with plenty of water, firewood, food and of course, gasoline for the generator.


The January 4 weekend of 2008 was one that will linger in our memories, as we lost so many trees throughout town, the businesses that were effected, and power outages for days.
