The Gridley Chamber is preparing for the ‘Shop Local’ – Business Festival on September 27th.  This is a time for businesses in Gridley to get their name and product or services known to the newcomers and to some not so new to the area. The festival is to let the local people know what type of businesses are in the area and what they have to offer.  Vendor 10’ x 10’ spaces are $40 for Chamber members and $50 for non Chamber members. If you do not wish to have a vendor space, you may want to be a sponsor and have your name printed on all the advertising material. We have several businesses committed to participating in this great event. Les Schwab Tires, Gridley –Biggs Police Department, Red Nose Rascal Clowns will entertain young and old during the day, Gridley Herald, The Wishing Corner, the Cambridge College, G.E.M.S., and others. Biggs Gridley Memorial Hospital will hold the first part of their free Health Care event by taking blood tests and having the results on October 11th at the second part of their Health Faire. Call the Chamber office for more information or an application at 846-3142. With the gas prices out of sight, it is time for the local residences to ‘Try Gridley First’ and save their gas money.

The Biggs-Gridley Memorial Hospital foundation Board of Directors will be holding fundraiser events to raise enough money to make the hospital independent and to keep the doors open. Please donate any amount you can afford. Remember, united we can do whatever we set our minds to do. We need to keep the hospital open for the residents of Gridley and Biggs.
September 9th is California Admission Day. This is a good day to display your California flag or the American flag.  The Chamber Board of Director’s meeting will be held at Sylvio’s at noon, on September 17th.

September 22nd is the First Day of Autumn.  All the trees, etc will soon be turning those beautiful colors.  The time of year that is a favorite of this lady.

The Chamber welcomed several new members in August.  Cambridge Career College at 990A Klamath Lane in Yuba City, offers workforce training solutions.  The Rednose Rascals clowns from the Biggs area and they do private parties and commercial events. The Prevention Education Program at 608 Kentucky St., Suite D2, offers education and counseling for people who have lost their drivers license, due to driving under the influence.

Norcal Payroll at 423 Virginia Street, with a payroll service, and last but not least, new member The Purse Lady Tanning Salon & Lotus Massage, at 853 Hazel Street, who will be holding their Grand Opening on September 18th.

We are excited that the City of Gridley has hired a new City Administrator, who comes to us from Colusa and prior to that was the administrator of Live Oak.

We would invite all the clubs, organizations, churches and businesses to please e-mail the Chamber at  gridleychamber@hotmail.com, or send a letter to 613 Kentucky Street, a list of their events for the balance of 2008 and whatever they have scheduled for 2009.  We are finding that more and more people are going to the chamber web to get information regarding upcoming events in Gridley.  This not only helps others plan their events, but it also gets the word out that your event is coming up and they can plan ahead to participate.

I know that my calendar gets full very rapidly and if I know of an event that I want to attend, I need to know the dates prior to filling up my calendar with something else that I am committed to doing.  It does not cost you anything to have your event on the Chamber Calendar and you do not need to be a Chamber member, although it would be nice if you were. You just need to get that information to the Chamber office in writing, so we can see that it is included on the calendar.

Please watch for the children walking, riding bikes, etc going to and from school.  Have a great last summer month of 2008.
