With many unknowns after losing five of their six ladder players from a year ago, the Live Oak tennis team is off to a good start, winning their first two matches against Sutter and Corning.

With many unknowns after losing five of their six ladder players from a year ago, the Live Oak tennis team is off to a good start, winning their first two matches against Sutter and Corning.


Live Oak's top three won their singles matches in the home opener against the Huskies. Rachel DeWitt won 6-1, 6-4, Jennifer DeWitt won 7-5, 6-3, and Sukhveer Cheema won 7-5, 5-7, 6-2. Number 5 Alora Sutcliffe won 4-6, 7-6, 7-2.


In doubles, the Lions top team of the DeWitt sisters won 8-4, giving Live Oak a 5-4 win overall on Tuesday.


The girls travelled to Corning on Wednesday and won 8-1. The girls played 10-game pro sets, and only their top doubles team lost.


Rachel DeWitt won her singles match 10-1, Jennifer DeWitt won 10-8, Cheema won 10-3, Daniela Dumitras won 10-6, Sutcliffe won 10-8 and Fermina Chavez won 10-2.


The doubles team of Cheema and Dumitras won 8-4, while Sutcliffe and Priscilla Munne also won 8-4.
